about the blog

I have a hard time relating to most venues for commentary on writing and culture—the ones that see their assured status as literary, in particular.  Several gentrified urban places are mentioned on these venues everyday, as well as rural areas that are a bit more obviously exclusive.  Most of these are places where one can’t be faulted for happening or wanting to live in (quiet and breathing room have their virtues), but such one-sided living can make for something one-dimensional.  And when you write the dictionary, you get to call it something else.

Words have helped give depth to the world as I know it.   Because of that, I hope to make this a place where, even if the posts are touching on something set in the furthest reaches of space, they’re still close to the ground where it’s roughest — close enough to navigate it and show the quality of the good that can be eked out there.
